S-LINK granted EIA permit decision for the first section upon legal advice from fwp
06/03/2024
Vienna, 3 June 2024: The S-LINK infrastructure project has been granted a permit under the Austrian Environmental Impact Assessment Act [UVP-G] for the section from Salzburg Lokalbahnhof to Mirabellplatz. When it comes to legal advice on the pioneering project Salzburger Regionalstadtbahn Projektgesellschaft mbH relies on the far-reaching expertise of Fellner Wratzfeld & Partner (fwp).
After being granted the licence by the Federal Government in April 2024 the S-Link project has reached another major milestone. Last week the Government of the State of Salzburg issued the EIA permit decision for the first section from Salzburg Lokalbahnhof to Mirabellplatz. This paves the way for construction to start on this central section, which is approximately one kilometre long and will be built as a double-tracked, underground section.
Led by Michael Hecht and Josef Peer, fwp is advising Salzburger Regionalstadtbahn Projektgesellschaft mbH on legal matters in connection with the planned extension of the local railway. By granting the EIA permit decision the authority has confirmed both the project's environmental compatibility and its significance for the public and classifies S-LINK as a project of the climate and energy transition.
"Being granted the EIA permit decision is a particularly important step for us. It attests the economic benefit and relevant contribution towards achieving the global and European sustainability and climate protection goals of the S-LINK infrastructure project", says a very pleased Monika Stöggl, head of the legal department at Salzburger Regionalstadtbahn Projektgesellschaft mbH.
"For us the EIA permit decision constitutes a decisive milestone that significantly promotes realisation of the project. S-LINK now fulfils all legal requirements for implementing the first sub-project", affirms fwp partner Michael Hecht, who provides legal advice to Salzburger Regionalstadtbahn Projektgesellschaft mbH together with his team, comprised, among others, of fwp attorney Josef Peer and fwp attorney Christina Klapf.
The S-LINK project in Salzburg, formerly known as Salzburg.Regional.Stadt.Bahn, marks a significant step forward in public infrastructure. It is intended to connect the city of Salzburg to the surrounding regions through a state-of-the-art regional railway system and thus to redefine commuting for some 60,000 Salzburg citizens.
