fwp 22/kunstakt: fwp opens its doors to young art and invites art lovers to visit its Virtual Art Walk

12/01/2021

Vienna, November 2021. Tradition, institution, a hub where art meets law, economy and social commitment - this is what the fwp kunstakt stands for. For more than 17 years, the business law firm has been opening its doors to provide young artists with the opportunity to exhibit their works exclusively at fwp’s offices over the course of one year and catch the eye of potential buyers.

The kunstakt is a project of fwp and the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts which aims to support and present the academy’s students. The kunstakt reaches its climax at the annual kunstakt exhibition, which is frequented by many guests from the fields of art, law and economy; this year, however, the exhibition could not take place for well-known reasons.

Instead, this year’s exhibition has once again been made accessible in the form of a Virtual Art Walk. Art lovers are welcome to discover the virtual world of the kunstakt - either as a short film or a 3D 360 degree panoramic tour - by strolling through the digital exhibition whenever and wherever they wish.

This social commitment to promote art within the scope of our sustainability initiative is of particular importance to fwp“, emphasises fwp partner Markus Fellner who, together with fwp partner Kurt Wratzfeld, initiated the kunstakt many years ago. “Our goal is to provide young artists, who for the most part are only just beginning their art career, with a platform where they can present and sell their art to a broad audience”, says Markus Fellner.

Keynote speaker Anne Faucheret also appreciates fwp’s commitment: “There are still only a very small number of private companies who show a constant interest in young art and express such interest in the form of continuous support. This is why fwp’s initiative, which has reached a historical status by now, is so important for Vienna”.

This year’s motto, “In light of the world’s ambiguity, a compass is useless”, calls for more space to be given to irregularity, contrariness and ambiguity, and a move away from the tendency towards categorisation and clear-cut compartmentalisation. The exhibition presents works by eight young artists who find ways to give artistic expression to their very own parameters of acting and thinking in a variety of images, forms and materials, thus creating space for ambiguity and individual interpretation.

We very much appreciate that fwp has once again invited us to curate this exclusive exhibition and to remunerate our students for their work.”, says Veronika Dirnhofer, professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and expresses her gratitude for the long-standing cooperation and the law firm’s interest in and appreciation of art.

The following artists contributed to the project: Pia-Veronica Åström, Gregor Beiwl, Albin Bergström, Michael Dietrich, Jessica Nam Kim, Daniel Leiter, Evelyn Plaschg, Alina Sokolova, Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
