After more than two-and-a-half years, the long-awaited government bill for the Renewable Energy Expansion legislation package was finally presented to parliament in mid-March 2021. As well as realigning green electricity funding, away from feed-in tariffs and towards market premiums, this package also provides the legal basis for local energy communities. While laying the key foundations for the energy transition, this set of laws still leaves important questions unanswered when it comes to the conditions applying to local energy communities.
