"kunstakt" exhibition opened by MUMOK Director Köb

Fellner Wratzfeld & Partners (fwp) invited representatives from the world of business and politics, clients, employees and friends to attend the grand opening of the "10/kunstakt" exhibition at their office. For the fifth year in a row, students of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, within the context of this art cooperation project, are showing works which critically analyse various aspects of the legal system. Edelbert Köb, Director of the MUMOK museum of modern art, formally opened the exhibition.

This year’s "kunstakt" is dedicated to the motto “Beyond”. "This title describes what the art works in our law firm have stood for since the beginning of the project: the endeavour to open up new possibilities, to propose different perspectives and to overcome conventions," fwp partner Dr. Markus Fellner explains. "The works of the ten young artists challenge our system of order, often transgressing established boundaries and thus creating something new beyond these limits."

As in previous years, ten students created works specifically designed for the premises of the law firm under the direction of professor Veronika Dirnhofer. MUMOK Director Edelbert Köb introduced the young artists and explained their pieces, which will once again add a distinctive touch to fwp’s premises for a whole year. Guests were impressed by the differentiated perspectives and symbiotic representations of the drawings, paintings, photographs, prints and installations.

MUMOK Director Edelbert Köb’s first summary interpretation: “Modernism, i.e. the topicalisation of the problems of modernity, no longer seems to be a relevant topic for the youngest generation of our artists. Their works are characterised by a plurality of styles, by figuration and by narration. Art-centred, formalistic discourses are passé. The ivory towers of discourse are left behind or not even ignored. The artists have turned their attention to the world, society, processes and their changes on a global scale or to their very own personal state of being in the here and now.

Against the background of musical entertainment provided by DJ Samir, the exhibition was discussed until late in the evening. Before going home, guests were invited to realise their own artistic potential: More than 200 guests created a giant splatter painting.
